Our Owner

Mr. Kim Tschantz, MSP, CEP, is credentialed as a Certified Environmental Professional with a Master of Science degree in Urban and Regional Planning. He has over 30 years of experience in project management, land use planning, environmental impact assessment and permitting. Kim established Cypress Environmental and Land Use Planning in 2002. Unlike many other planning consultants, Mr. Tschantz provides both standard land use planning services, such as permitting for homeowner projects; and environmental planning services, including impact assessments and erosion control consultation.

For over a decade Kim managed the Environmental Review program for the County of Santa Cruz. He is a long-time member of the Association of Environmental Professionals and served several terms as President and Vice-President of AEP’s Monterey Bay Chapter. He joined the membership of the newly formed Santa Cruz Construction Guild in 2010.

Clients of Cypress Environmental and Land Use Planning range from private property owners who wish to plan for sustainable development of their properties, to municipalities that need assistance in evaluating the environmental impacts of their new parks and public works projects. Several non-profit organizations have also hired Kim to coordinate the work of professional project team members and to obtain multi-agency permit approvals.

The mission statement of the firm derives from Kim’s philosophy that creating solutions to achieve approval for your project and doing what’s best for the environment should be compatible objectives. By meeting both objectives, this firm can assist you in creating a project that is easily maintainable over the long-term without you being handicapped with structural mishaps and emergency problems jeopardizing property long after the project is implemented.
